    Exclamation fishing report...may 6th 7th and 10th...obx

GOOD FISHING...got lucky and had great weather for the most part....fished tues the 6th and sat the 10th in the sound putting the boat in underneath manteo bridge. on both inshore days..tues the water was crystal clear and we had a great catch. 3 nice flounders (have 2 be now just to keep one)...a 15.5, 16.5, and a 19.5 inch. The 19.5 inch fish was the thickest flounder i've ever seen for its size...it was like a round shape vs. an oval and he was easily pushing 4lbs...i've caught a bunch of flounder over 20 that might not even go 3lbs...hard to believe! Also caught 1 rat rockfish and about 10 nice trout. The next day i fished with spergeon on miss hatteras and had a great catch of snappers (bliners, americans, and glassy eyes) with a few triggers...also caught a king mac on the butterfly jig that would have gone 10lbs or so but a shark ate his @$$ at the boat....oh well...

yesterday the 10th me and pops returned to the sound to give it another try...light northeast winds perfect conditions only problem was it was saturday and we did out best to avoid other boats....managed a great catch of trout trout (kept a dozen prolly 16-20 inches) and a nice keeper flounder along with releasing prolly 6 rockfish and 2 puppy drum...i also caught a monster blue fish on 8lb test and a 20lb mono leader...he ended up going 35 inches long and 11lbs...he was pretty narly looking and i thought he was swamp thing when i first saw him with cuts and wounds near his head....

breaks my heart i have to go to summer school and leave epic fishing like this...

    cheers,
    carey

Hey Carey, I'm going down this sat. for a week. How you catch the trout and flounder? Bait or lures? What Bait? I don't expect you to tell me where but throw a dog a bone. Oh, is that a public ramp? Thanks.

public ramp underneath manteo bridge....great ramp...great facility...LURES OF COURSE!!!! HAHA....3/8 oz jig head (depends on current)....with soft plastic tails...best colors were of the green chartruese variety....but i have high confidence in white/pearl and rootbeer....the key is to pull it in front of one....i've heard double rigs have been good too but i refuse to use them unless i absolutely have to for a variety of reasons....

the fish are shallow in the spring...or thats what i learned just from this week....look for current and bait it seems to be the equation down here...clear h20 helps too...

    cheers

how big do flounder have to be there? The explanation on nc website is not exactly clear. 14 or 15and a half?

    its bullcrap
15.5 inches now...its takes a stud flapjack now...honestly many places will tell you 14inches (last years) because they simply dont know and NCDMF has been extremely slow in getting their 08 sheets to the tackle shops...

i have witnessed now like 4 flounder reg size limit changes in like the last 10 years....its seems odd that the keep changing them....like if nc was doing a good job protecting flounder stocks why would we have to keep continually changing the size limit? maybe i'm wrong...just seems odd....

that being said the first 4 out of 7 flounder caught on our boat have been keepers....if i keep seeing these big fish, no complaints...

    cheers

thats sounds like a real mess. You would think they would have that straight by this time of year. Sounds like MD DNR.
