Congrats on the new boat. What type/size did you get. I don't fish that area, so can't help you much in local hot spots. The Big Rockfish are still in the Bay, so run out there and troll up some.

Hello everyone! I just bought my first boat and am excited about getting on the water this weekend to test the waters.
I'm keeping her in Urbanna. Anybody know of the hot fishing spots around there? Also, being new to the area, what is everyone catching right now, and what do you expect to catch as we get deeper into summer? What are you using for bait and/or lures as well.
Any help and/or advice would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!

I have been away from the Rapp for 2 years however that does not mean the fish left. Great croaker river, White Stone Bridge, mouth of corrotoman, red barns, pickle factory, and the mouths of most creeks aare worthy of a bottom rig of squid, shrimp, bloddworms, or fishbites. Rockfish can be had by trolling or live lining around the bridge. Flounder can be had on drop offs, but most will run below the size limit. In the fall, the spot fishing is fabulous with Bulters Hole and the Spike being top shelf as well as other spots upriver. Get a good map of the river and jot down notes of time, tide, and dates and you'll be loading the cooler in no time. Best of luck with the boat and welcome!![]()
thanks...i got a Monterey 242..not really a fishing vessel (wife wanted something we could entertain on and stay the weekend), but its going to be outfitted soon enough with a couple rod holders and I spent about an hour at Bass Pro shop yesterday (my paradise) loading up on supplies. I have a hard time just crusing around, need to be doing something like going after the "big one".
