    Default Mulberrys are dropping...

Along the canal. Some trees I noticed were already dropping plenty of juicy berries. At one location there were 5 or 6 large turtles taking up all the prime real-estate under this tree and not letting any berries (or flies) stay on the water long enough for fish to find them. I still only managed one LM bass on a wooly bugger and rode the canal from above fletchers down to the mouth of Rock Creek. Didn't see one other fisherman on the canal the entire time but the river had plenty of anglers out. Only saw a few carp and they were not the common carp variety. Some sort of quill gordon or sucker type carp. They gave chase to a bugger a few times and since I didn't see too many carp, I never tried a mulberry pattern.

Just got back from that area and WOW ive never witnessed a mulberry frenzy but it is a sight to see... the water was boiling with carp and the berries were dropping like mad, which was surprising given the complete lack of wind. Didn't have my fly rod or mulberry fly but that wouldn't have mattered given the tree was out of casting range on the jungle side of the canal. There were also numerous bass cruising the shoreline and I was able to pick one up. Saw a bruiser at 4-5 lbs inches from the bank but had nothing to throw at her (not to mention she was clearly on a bed.... sadly I doubt she will last long in such a well traveled area).

I ran into a guy who said he was slaying rockfish and Americans near CB but I couldn't get em in the half hour I tried... should have stayed on the canal! Planning to head back more prepared tomorrow.

I've tied those for carp in the local ponds, works if I can get a very delicate presentation. - don
