Default Fishing report north of Cigar

Sorry for the late report. We got off to a late start since we did not get to bed till Midnight Friday (My fishing buddies came in late from Northern Jersey and Pa). I had planned on leaving the house by 2AM and get to Rudee around 4:30AM. Since we woke up at 3:30 and did not get out the door till 4AM, we finaly showed up at Rudee around 6:30. Oh well there goes the morning bite, arghh. Next time we go down in the evening and get a nap in the boat.

We finally got to the fishing grounds and trolled some good marks and two tones but found no tuna who wanted to bite. After what seemed like forever we ran to the edge and worked some weed lines trolling. At one weed line we saw a big swirl and saw a nice mahi. No takers on the troll so we threw some chunk bait, clam, metal and soft plastics. Low and behold we ran out clams in no time, clam seemed to be the prefered bait (hmm note to self).... We worked sevel weed line spread out over 10 miles in 2500ft of water and boated 5 nice gaffer size Mahi and lost 3 simular sized fish.

We saw tons of life and a billfish on the surface (we thought shark but when we got close we realized ourt mistake and he was gone). Did not get skunked and the water was perfect.... We dicided to stay out late and try bottom fishing some areas but had no luck we finaly got back to Rudee around 10 PM on the road by 10:30 the VB traffic sucked took about 20-30 minutes to get back on the main road out of town. We finally back to Fredericksburg at 2AM, three stops for gas, energy drinks and to strech, damn I was beat after all day in the sun and towing the boat in traffic 160 miles each way. We added 50 lbs of ice to the fish over night and waited to clean the fish/boat till this morning.

BTW the stomaches had squid, tiny crabs, and one 5" fish.
