    Default Women and Children First

The annual Youth and Ladies Tournament of the Peninsula Salt Water Sport Fisherman’s Association was held over the past week. It culminated with a cookout and awards ceremony held at Dare Marina and Yacht Sales in Dare, Virginia on June 29. The tournament and the cookout are both free to participants. This tournament is a week long so that there will be a better chance of calm weather during the event. The targeted species for the tournament are flounder and croaker. Inshore species are chosen so that fishing trips can be short and fun with an emphasis on fun. Club minimum sizes are waved for this event though state regulations still apply. The current 19-inch minimum length for flounder makes this species a bit of a challenge to catch one large enough to weigh in. One local angler commented that we should have this tournament more often. His wife fished with him more during this week than she had during the entire previous year. The Ladies first place croaker prize was donated by Bass Pro Shops. The other awards were provided by the members of the Peninsula Salt Water Sport Fisherman’s Association.
