    Default any reciepes for skate?

    chummed at hacketts today caught 15 throwback rock and 5 of the biggest skates I have caught in a long time. Curious if anyone has eaten them and how to cook them( other than the pine board method)

    I cooked one once and it was not worth the trouble. Cut of the wings as soon as possible and soak them in briney water to leach out the blood. Cut into chunks roll in corn meal and deep fry.

    The cow nosed rays in the upper bay are not very good for eating IMHO. Which is too bad cause there is a lot of meat. If you get a real skate (stingray) that would be worth a try. I have heard that is what 'sea scallops' are made from.

    I only know of 1 person that tried them....he said the made his house stink and the dog would not even eat them...that was good enough for me

    Sure,

    Soak a cedar board in water overnight. Pre-heat oven to 350 deg. Fillet the skate wing and place in on the board. Bake for 30 minutes. When done, throw away the skate wing and eat the board.

    Andrew Zimmern on Travel Channel was eating sting ray in Phuket Thailand - Sept 9th 2008 episode. It shows briefly how they cooked it - open grill. They appear to have cooked it again after it was grilled - but with seasoning added the second time. He said it wasn't bad but this guy eats bugs and all kinds of organs.

    i have cut the wings off filleted the skin off the meat and then filleted the meat off that piece thats in the middle of the wings cut into squares fried up told the wife what it was she said enjoy but before they were all eaten she had tryed it and was asking if i had more to cook the meat has lines of white and dark meat really wasnt bad...........just have to try i would do it another if it wasnt to big.......
