    Default Garmin GPSMAP 4208

Ok, I've decided this is the one that I want... It will fit where I want it as well.... My question is this... What is the transducer I need to buy for this unit and do I need to buy this thing called a GDS 22 or 21???? I do not have or plan to have a radar and I do plan on going out the max would be 45 miles out. So I do know I want a duel transducer,,, just don't know which one to get and what's with this GDS thing,,, what the H$(( is that? Please help me out here, very excited about getting this awesome unit,,, but as you can tell, it's my first time installing something like this....

The 4208 is basically just a display unit. You'll need a GSD 22 sounder module if you want to use it as a fish finder.

Here is the transducer you want

Yea, I've figured it out that I need the GSD-22 but this transducer you've given me the site for is over kill I think. I'm currently looking at the Intelliducer, Transom, NMEA 2000. Shouldn't this transducer do just fine for me?

That transducer is spec'ed to 600 ft. so figure you'll get good data to 400' and 400 ft. isn’t going to cut it offshore.

The GSD is rated to 2kW so I don't see sticking a 500W transducer on it and expect it to perform to its potential. Personally I'd stick with a 1kW transducer.

    Default Transducer?

So do they have one for a transome mount and not a through the hull mount?

Yes, Airmar makes a transom mount with temp and speed wheel. Believe it was around $140 at BOE Marine. I put a 4208 on my boat this spring and really like it. GPS is really nice. Sounder is pretty good, but it could be the operator. Been happy with the system so far. Installed mine, was a piece of cake. The networking is very easy. If you have any questions Bmail me.

    This is the transom mount.
