    Default Fishermans Island/Magothy Bay

I was considering fishing the area around Magothy Bay. I dont want to drive to the Eastern Shore and use the Oyster ramp. I was considering putting in at Seaford, as I usually do, and make the crossing. The question I have, after looking at my maps, is if there is access in around Fishermans Island, either on the Cape Charles side or the ocean side. I will be in a 21 ft center console that draws about 20" of water. Maps show Magothy channel but water depth is unclear on reaching it. Just wondering if anyone has taken this route on a regular basis.

That area can get really spooky and the maps really wont help much. High tide will not be a problem, but low tide might be high and dry. Best to go with someone who knows the area well.

The tides over there fluctuate 6-7 sometime 8'. there are oyster beds that stand proud above the bottom up to 2'. The channel markers are inconsistant. the bugs are outrageous. its about a 30+ mile run from seaford. I would say lost cause in a 21' boat. thats just me though

Try putting in at Kiptopeake State park, easy run down to little bridge. Then cut on over thru the channel straight ahead, don't go under bridge and turn right into what looks like open water, shllow. Not sure about the little ramp on the cut over channel, if it's open.

Just be careful, and watch your bottom machine. Fished a couple hours over there a few years ago in a 20' hole with chum bucket on the bottom. Caught 4 sharks, fun fishing by yourself.

    Good luck,
    Tom

You can use the Wise point ramp which is on the intercoastal water way. If you are not familair with the area do not leave the marked channel at any rate of speed.

It is way too dangerous. The flies are horrible. The fish are hard to find. There are all kinds of things that will eat your prop or hull out there. You might get stranded for an entire tide cycle. Don't get me started on the ticks. Rumor has it the locals are canibalistic. Cell phones don't work there. Ever hear of the ghost of Smith Island? It's real!

    Don't go.

the tidal flux is more like 3 to 4 foot. and if i was going over there i would trailer. This time of the year we can get Thunder storms out of the blue and you will have to run in to them to get home.

We went over there a few times last year. We put in at oyster. I have a 21 ft CC with a 200 susuki on it. I did fine. I went everwhere the locals said I couldn't chasing tarpon. My GPS also worked well showing me where I could go. Lots of fun to be had there. BIG sharks and rays, croakers are ok too. When the tide goes out it really does. Just be careful and have a good time. Oh yeah carry a couple of fly swatters. The small horse flew are BAD.
