    Default Rigging for Kings

Most people troll with drone spoons. The spoon needs to be trolled deep and you can use a trolling weight, planer or down rigger to get it down and I like to run mine at various depths in the water column. Use about 50 ft of leader behind your trolling weight or planar and since Kings have a good set of teeth I'd recommend some heavy mono or wire near the spoon.

For live bait I'd recommend one of the pre-rigged King rigs... usually a wire leader a 6.0 hook followed by a smaller "stinger" treble. Put the big hook in the lip and the stinger in back of the tail. Menhadden will not stand much stress so the hooks cannot be set in to deep. Once rigged feed the baits out so they're 50 - 60 yards behind the boat. Drift until you catch a monster..

What is a good size planer to use for the kings and do you like the 3 1/2 drone and in what color?
