Tred Avon?

Hey guys,
I am a Western shore guy but I am headed across the bridge to hang out with some buddies at his house on the Tred Avon this weekend.

I know it's known as a good creek for crabbing. What general area do I want to hit? Give me a range. I don't know where I am staying by water but by land the house is at the end of Travelers Rest road. The boat will be staying at his dock.

Is it going to be a total bust to bring the boat and go crabbing?

I crab a little farther out the Tred Avon near Bellevue with a buddy, and our results this year have been disappointing. We crabbed last Friday evening for 3 hours and got 14 keepers using a 1000 foot trot line. The crabs were nice, but few and far between. You might have better luck crabbing in the creeks farther up the river if the jimmies have moved into the less saline water. Monday, I was talking to a commercial crabber who trotlines near the mouth of the Tred Avon, and a day's work for him is about 2.5 bushels. We generally crab in 9-12 feet depths.

You could probably catch a half bushel from the pier in a couple hours or less.

From what I've heard, the Tred is becoming the new Wye. That meaning that spots are hard to come by, folks that travel to crab the Wye are now hitting the Tred. Word gets out, the parking lot fills fast and the spots to crab become tough to fined.

Just a thought - I had 3 sets of doublers in the pots this morning. The lovebirds might be up in shallow water looking for cover.
