Alley Cat went there this past Tuseday............laid out at 6:30 AM and after four runs over 30 traps had 3 or 4 crabs. He packed up and went to the Gunpowder. I believe he ended up with 36 in all after 6 hrs. He has a report post on here somewhere. I managed 42 out of Gunpowder in 4 hours............but I started there.
I dont know about other crabbers, but on Sunday while crabbing at Rocky Point, I had lots of chicken necks stolen from the trap and nothing to show for it, threw back lots of small crabs, finally decided to move, but all in all slow day.
I talked to some people that had fished BR last week and they said they were catching lots of catfish and eels . I caught some big eels last week that could easily yank a neck . They could be your culprits . I crabbed a Bay linked cove on Kent Isle one time and everytime a neck on the trot line came up it was loaded with large minnows stripping the necks . I also used wire ring traps and they were loaded with the same minnows . I'm sure perch ,spot , croakers can tear baits up .
Thanks Tony! Do you crab local or head further south. I have not even heard many good reports from Eastern Bay. I crabbed GP twice this year, did good, but it is way to crowded now with crabbers
Usually Back river and sometimes Middle . Back River was very crowded lately . Don't know why since everyone I talk to says crabbing is poor . I usually go out on wed because of crowds . I have lcc . Last wed the river was empty . Even the comm guys have given up there as far as I can tell . BR very spotty . one day you get some and the next time nothing .
