Thanks for the the report. I may be headed that way in the morning. Did the fish just have lockjaw? Did you mark much on the sounder?
Nice work on the 100lbr
Crew of Kil Song (the Jig Master, his buddy Mike and Van) headed out to Masseys ... stayed until ~ 12N with no joy. Went to Hambone ... no luck there and back to Masseys. Around 2 PM the Invisible Fisherman hooked up while eating potato chips. It took some help from Van and Kil and in about 20 minutes, a 55" ~ 100 BFT came over the rail. It was the only serious pull all day. My pictures all bombed (mode adjustment got inadvertently switched), so perhaps Van could put up some pix from his camera. Fish was caught on a jig near the bottom ... no bait on this trip. Smooth ride out and back, other than a few airborne moments from the big rollers. Great day on the water.

Wow! We worked so hard all day jigging those little metal jigs, and the only serious hard bite all day came when I dropped the 8 oz shimano blue/white jig to the bottom, cranked it up 4 cranks off the bottom, put it in the rod holder, and then went forward to munch on potato chips. I was tired!) Luckily, my invisible friend (with whom I'm never apart) apparently was on the jig, because I saw the rod bend down almost to breaking, and next thing I know, we were fighting a nice 55" tuna. After I managed to fight it for a few minutes and got hand cramps, Kil took over the rod and cranked up the drag on my Thunnus 1600 reel, and made short work of the nice bft. Mike and I both sank gaffs into the fish and pulled it into the boat. Saved by our (actually My) invisible friend!

I have the same invisible friend
At least you got some excitement and didn't go home empty handed. Great job. Going to try on Sunday.
Rodney? Is Rodney acting up again?

Who said you need special technique for tuna jigging ?
Mike of Peace Token Tackle is one of premier tuna jig fishermen on the East Coast.
He landed 77 inch giant on a jig two weeks ago and had over 1000 tuna on jigs including 6 - 7 bigeye on jigs. But rodhoder jigging beat him and me badly.

Not only did invisible friend hook up the tuna, notice that the tuna was hooked right on the nose! And thanks, Kil, for bringing it in. I was out of gas from jigging all day, until 1400 hrs, when the bft caught it in the nose. It was a great pleasure fishing with you and Mike, and learning the very different techniques that the two of you use. I would love to have the two of you aboard my Carolina Class to teach me more. One thing, tho, and that is we went to the same spots today (Massey's and Hambone) and marked very little bait and caught nothing. Only a very few boats were catching today. Van
Hey Van, what pound test were you using on the spinning reel? That's a nice fish on that kind of tackle.
Kil and Mike, thanks again for joining us and teaching us novices some jigging wisdom. Thanks also for posting some nice pictures when my camera went out to lunch. Looking forward to you and Mike joining us, and you guys are always welcome on our boats. Hopefully the BFT will pick up again soon.
Some expert knife work by Kil
