Good fish, even for the James. Congrads.

Met Capt Mark Gholson at Hicks' landing Friday night just before dark for a meat trip. 9 good sized shad with the cast net so we started fishing about 10pm. First fish was a healthy one around 12lbs. In the cooler for my daughter's graduation party next week it went. Several small fish up to about 3lbs kept it interesting. About midnight got my largest cat from the Rap in over 3 years at 33lbs and full of fight. After the weighing, back it went for another day. Incoming tide ended around 2:30am and the Capt's dog needed to run the shore for relief so back to the ramp we go. Dropped the anchor about 200yds further down stream for a couple hours so we could nap while trying for a few more eaters. About 3:15 or so the pole in the deepest went down with a purpose. New personal best of 63lbs and the biggest I know of on the Rap in many years. After some pictures, it went back to fight again. We got a few more small ones by daylight and headed home. I'm all smiles today and have a renewed feeling for the fished out Rap. Might be able to get some pictures up one day soon. Hope to see some of you on the river soon. Later for now---jonnycat

Johnny- Great report. Its been several years since I've fished the Rap. Thats a nice fish no matter where it came from. Congradulations! I don't know why, but that stretch of river has always produced. Is there still alot of limb lines be'n placed in the river? Is the new ramp in good shape?

Thats awesome news to hear that a fish that size came out of the Rapp. Might have to start pointing the bow that direction instead of the schoolie rocks on the potomac. I just got so disgusted with all the friggin nets and commercial guys down past Port Royal that I had almost given up on it ever coming back.
Here's the pic.
