DECK Boards

I have to replace some of the boards on my deck at the house and I was wondering about the wood alternatives they have now. I might just replace them all with the synthetics. There seem to be several brands. Has anyone used these and were you happy with the results?

I've used various brands and have been pleased with them but you have to remember that synthetic decks are supported every 16". Wood decks typically are supported every 24". Just something to consider before you buy.

Any of them are quite expensive compared to lumber. Another problem is spacing of joists--the new materials require 16" spacing. Many decks are built on 24" spacing so there would be a lot of additional joisting to accomodate the new material. ALL of the plastics are HOT under foot. They seem to hold heat more than lumber regardless of the color. Special screws are required for some of the new material, some even have special brackets in addition to the screws.
It makes a beautiful job and durability is much better. Now the handrails and trim boards are available in different colors so it can really be fancy. Easy to work with using everyday woodworking equipment. Easy to keep clean without a pressure washer.

I just replaced my decking with wood. The features of the plastic were attractive, but I could not justify the expense since I'm too old to get the years of use out of it!!!!

Thanks for the info. I didn't know about the spacing. That sounds like whole new decks instead of just replacing top boards.

Wood is good,I need to replace my deck,or get rid of it and
build a patio,hot,hot,hot.
I would rather build a new wood deck.
Now when it comes to replacing facial boards on the garage,
synthetic is goooood.
