I watched it... pretty cool. They don't take the young fish....... from what I saw, and only 240 ton quota. That dude wrestling the shark in the cage was insane..... but at $10,000+ per fish, guess thay gotta' do what ever it takes.

I concede that shows like this (and others like lobster wars, ice road truckers etc) are lame in comparision to the original deadliest catch, but I fail to see how this could make one sick. From what I saw (not all of the program) its a well managed business and fishery. There are similar models all over the world, using wild and bred fish/shellfish for ranching. I bet the ammount of gas we burn to catch a few pelagics would make them sick........or laugh!

why is it that before these reality shows came out no one was really ever pissed about these things other than the full on conservationists but now everyone either hates these shows or loves them. My view on it is it is commercal fishing with a twist......no dead bycatch, they deal in bulk with a quota, they have quality assurance (divers) they don't just catch and ignore them they constantly have to go the extra mile mending a net while being towed grapple sharks and deal with the elements. After all this then they have to get QA'd againg by the fisheries people and then feed the fish till they are good for market. Now think of the costs that are expended 2 vessels fuel, 30 crew for 45 days at sea, live chum, dead chum, net maint supplys, shipping etc in the end they are payin a butt ton for those fish so the profit margin might not be as big as eveyone thinks but none the less rather effective. Now who knows i could be off kilter but i belive that the quotas are fairly managed in ausie land and are one of the countries participating in the BFT conferences for the cont. management of the species.

I was amazed that they wrestle those Sharks out of the nets. All in a days work I suppose. I believe I would have my bang stick in a holster on me though.

    Thumbs up Tuna Wranglers

Thought it was cool the first time I saw Tuna Wranglers, but then realized it is the same thing they do to Menhaden in the Chesapeake Bay. Now add Tuna Wranglers to last nights 60 Minutes showing the same type of Tuna "Fishing?" in the Mediterranean with spotter planes, giant nets taking entire schools of Blue Fin illegally. This is why the Coastal Conservation Association has been sending out alerts about this failing fishery.

These kinds of shows are not about fishing-they are about slaughtering entire fisheries for profit and they are sickening.

When you see the Menhanden Boats & Spotter Planes on the bay, stop and think about it. Tuna Wranglers is the same kind of destruction to a world wide fishery!

While Australia may be one of the better countries in attempting to enforce the quotas and I'm sure they play real nice for the TV cameras, nevertheless, Australia has it's share of violations. At least they are trying to enforce the quotas (many are not) but in the end, that method of fishing is dwindling our tuna resources worldwide faster than they can be replenished. And yet, we can only keep one BFT per day, 2 if we hit the slot sizes just right.
