Some responders have said that Jeff should contact the offending captain, but according to his first post, he did, right there, on the water, and the response he got was to get laughed at.

I have had similar experiences, and I've had three kinds of responses to saying something on the water.

1. I got laughed at, or worse. In one case I ran up alongside and turned the air purple, hoping that if I couldn't embarrass the offender, at least I could embarrass his clients.

2. I got an apology, which I accepted.

3. I got an argument, at the end of which I realized that I wasn't 100% in the right and the person I had called out wasn't 100% in the wrong.

Now, this makes it seem as if I call people out a lot, but I don't; I've been boating way more than 20 years and the above represents maybe 5 or 6 incidents, total, and none recently, as I get older and mellower. Most people are nice out there and I ignore most of the others.

Somehow I see a charterboat captain shaking his head as he tells his wife about this idiot today in a small boat .......... .

Sometimes the area gets crowded - not much you can do about it.We all have to share the fish - like it or not.
