I fished with Jeff a couple of years ago, very mellow, friendly guy. I take his word, he wouldn't post if he wasn't truly pissed off. I've got a couple of young kids that I plan on taking fishing soon, if a charter cut me off/waked me with them on board I don't know what I would be capable of, especially if they were laughing at me. BTW I think I got skewered for posting something similar a couple years ago but without the boat name.

A lot of mates on the bay also have Captains licenses and can operate the boat. Some of these guys may even have their own smaller boats and guide/charter businesses....the owner of the boat doesn't have to be aboard.....the acting captain does have to have the proper credentials though if he's carrying a party for hire.
On the issue, it's my OPINION that if he was so dangerous as to endanger you and your son's safety, then you should be talking to DNR Police or the Coasties........such actions really can't be tolerated. Once could be a mistake or error in judgement but multiple times is unacceptable. It's also my opinion that blasting on a public forum without first trying to contact the owner/Captain is a bit overzealous.
I'm not taking sides or trying to start a p*ssing contest....just my OPINION.
I would also think that a licensed captain would have to be on the boat.
Just cause he's his mate dosen't mean he's not licensed as a captain, many mates have there captains license, just waiting for the permanent step up...So what they are saying is it could be one of his regular mates, who is filling in who also would obviously have to have his capt. license to operate legally...make sense?
I am still not defending DD charters but posting on a forum that I doubt very seriously that Danny partakes in is doing next to nothing to correct a problem. If Danny's mate was infact captaining the boat, yes it is Danny's buisness and responsibility but if he dont know issues are happening, whats he to do(have a helicoper follow his boat around when he is not in attendance. I would have to say that crying out here, may get the issue off your chest, i'ts not helping make fellow TFer's anymore safe. If the safety of fellow TFer's is your objective, call Danny.

I don't own a boat or take charters but I am a father with an overly protective attitude of my children and people doing stupid shite and then laughing about it has caused to to run across a parking lot, street, yard etc.... with my wife water skiing on my arm to slow me down. If the rules of buisness apply and when calmer heads prevail a telephone call directly to the Capt. with the inicident would be the correct route. If his employee is taking liberties with his liscense he needs to know and if he isn't on his boat if the rules state he needs to be then he should be made aware next time it will be brought to the proper people as most capt. seem to give there left nut to get liscensed. IMHO
merogers- I dont know that anyone was implying that he was anything but mellow, and friendly. And its certainly evident that he is pissed off. My only position on this entire matter is the method behind the response. He could have contacted the Coast Guard, and DNR, and filed complaints following appropriate channels, could have contacted DLLR, and reported the situation to them (which would have investigated, and if found to be performing inappropriately, could have jeopardized his business license) or he could have posted a rant on a public forum. He chose the latter. That is the only issue that I have. Im sorry that it happened to Jeff... I truly am. I think that its terrible that we (all of us) have to deal with inconsiderate captains (both professional, and private). However, you can be damn sure that if I were in a situation like that, I would have followed a different route, and reported him to the authorities. And I have not disputed the fact that he was in that situation... simply tried to steer his frustration into more productive responses.
Oh well... I guess I have made my point- I guess Im finished with this topic.
Why didn't you call the Coast Guard as soon as he ran close to you and file a report with them, which I would still do,I'am sure by now you know where he docks and if anybody was to put one of my children in danger on purpose well I just think something like that could be handled real quick face to face,I would without a doubt would pay him a visit and get it handled..
Not sure what there is to gain by posting here, only a few things are going to happen some will agree about the Capt, some will defend the Capt and other will say they are sorry it happened, maybe at best it will get back to him and then you can have a pissing match over the internet, and then there are two sides to every story and most of the time the truth is somewhere in the middle..good luck I hope you get it handled..
Another one bites the dust because of a PO'd TF'r . Tried and convicted in the court of public opinion . Any witnesses ? Let's go to the video tape . I hope you can back it up dude . This board has become a bunch of whining sissy-men . Get over it ! . A-holes are everywhere and they always will be ! Charter Boat Cappies thinking they own the water is nothing new ! Move on and quit stirring the $hitpile
