My new pier has turned into the seagulls private toilet. I plan on purchasing some cone shaped piling caps. I measured the diameter of the poles and was getting ready to order them put I saw a website that said that you should add 1/2 inch to each measurement because they are tapered. Has anyone ever purchased them and had a problem with having them fit correctly ? Should I add 1/2 inch to each measurement ? Only one website stated that I should.
Plus, does anything would as a seagull deterrent ? They sit right next to the owl that I put out there. Any help would be appreciated.

Any heavy fishing line - string with a couple of beads - tack or staple from piling to piling.
As long as the pilings are already set it shouldn't matter. What you are reading is for someone who is getting ready to build a pier. Most piers these days are built with 8" pilings. That can vary an inch or two on the big end. Just go out and measure your piles and see what you've got. You may have to trim one or two or more with the chainsaw, but it's not very hard.
We use to put rat traps on the pilings tied to a string so you don't lose them. Sit back....have a cold one and laugh you a$$ off...........Gary
