Thanks Teaser. We are going to try to get out.....looks like the morning may be ok, but will pick up in the afternoon. Was looking to see if anyone going out early since we would like to follow someone out of the inlet! :) We actually followed you out last year in Aug since there was no moonlight and had trouble seeing in my brother's boat.

If you go out this weekend, good luck.

    Kg,

Anytime you want follow me out just jump on in. The run through
the marsh can be a little tricky in the dark with no ambient light. Dead
low water, fog, and darkness makes it a real fun 6-8 mile jaunt through the
marsh to get to the seabouy. I've run the creek hundreds of times
in the O'dark early departure.... it never gets routine.

    Good Luck. Catch'em up.

    Keith,

Is the marsh ever going to be dredged? I don't get down that often, and it's a nightmare going out/ coming in. I schedule every in/out on the tides. I shoot dead on bouy-to-bouy. I see you guys go out of there like a bat out of hell, and by the time I clear the shoals, you're probably at the Lumpy Bottom!

    Tim,

That's a good question. Don't think it's been resolved in favor of dredging.

Teaser said it right, never routine in the dark. I got home late last run and was overjoyed to discover that none of the outer markers were lit, slowing the inlet shot too.

Thanks Teaser for the offer. My brother, Greg Green, lives down there on the bay side in Painter and my dad has a place in Exmore on the bay side. My brother has a 26ft Triton WA with twin Hondas that we go out on. My dad has a 21ft Carolina Skiff that he fishes in the inlet all the time for flounder. I try to get down there about once a month for an offshore trip. I am hoping to get out one more time, but not sure if our schedules will align. If not, then we will be going out late Nov and Dec for rock in the bay.

We did get out yesterday, but waited for some daylight since nobody was going out when we got down there. My brother knows the inlet really well, but without a tower it is hard to see really well. The ride out was not bad at all and we made it out to around Bob's Canyon and put the spread out. Kept going east and couldn't find some good water and bait. A lot of grass everywhere which made it a PITA. We started heading north and west some since the winds shifted out of the NE and were picking up. We got a bite off on the planer and I even had wire on it. Then couldn't find great water and started heading into the lumps and the Crotch. Caught a little 12" YFT or Big Eye on a mini green machine bar.....didn't even know we had him hooked until we checked the lines. Finally between the lump and the Crotch we got a nice wahoo on the planer.....about 40lbs. And that was it.

We pulled the lines at 3pm and the seas were getting really big once we were started heading in....5-6ft and they were tight. They were coming out of the north versus NE like we expected and made the due west run really dicey. Definitely was not the 3-4 fters NOAA was calling for. Had some hairing raising moments, but my brother did a great job getting us in safe.

Anyway, thanks again for the offer to follow you and I hope we get to do that before the season is over.

    Later,

    Keith G.,

Good going! I'm looking at the weather and will probably make a run on Monday.

Will let you know how we do.
