    Default Rattlesnakes

My buddy caught a rattlesnake while hunting today. Perhaps the wrong post for this board, but I know many of you hunt as well as fish. He's told me about seeing rattlesnakes out here before (Just north of Eliz. City), but I never believed him. I drove over to his place to see for myself and sure enough, a timber rattler. As a snake enthusiast, I released her a few miles away from population down a deserted dirt road. Moral of the story, WATCH YOUR STEP WHEN HUNTING, EVEN IN THE FALL.

That would be a canebrake, they are endangered and it was good of you to make sure it was released unharmed. They are protected so you may want to let your friend know so he can let others that he hunts with no not to harm them. They are a subspecies of the timber rattler. Basically just the eastern version/phase.

That's interesting. The markings on that one are a bit different from the ones I've seen.

They must have been out in full force. I found a 6ft rattlesnake laying across the dirt road in Suffolk yesterday. Needless to say i will start wearing my snake chaps on warm days from now on.

I happen to play Golf in Suffolk,a few times a year. Man this sure changes my looking for shots in the rough ! Damn , just thought those Rattlers were washed down from some western areas.Gonna look a lot harder, in the Bush.

Thank you for not killing the snake.Far too many people favor the knee jerk reaction and kill them.Snakes eat alot of mice and rarely bother people.Very cool photo .
What could be more mundane than dying of old age or of natural causes when there is death by misadventure to be pursued ? Skip
