Clearwater Lake February 13th

We had great weather for our first trip to Clearwater Lake. We owe a big thanks to Dr. Hagan for his hospitality in having us out. In all, dozens of trout were caught between the 8-10 members who showed up. All three species of trout in the lake were caught (Rainbow, Brook and Brown) as well as a few small bass. Some fished with the fly rod, but most of us had good luck on the light tackle with small jigs and in-line spinner baits.

It would be nice to have more club members fly fish next time. The difference between landing these fish on a fly rod (as oppose dto spinning tackle) is quite simply amazing.
I was using a dry fly with a light tippet, and one 16" Rainbow trout gave me all I could handle for about 4 minutes. On a spinning rod, that fight would have been over in 30 seconds, at best.

I have a spare fly rod to lend, and the Lake had 3. Let's encourage it.

Such a fun place to fish in Chapel Hill. I went a few rounds with some 16" fish last spring out there...and second Henry's statement.
