Post this same question on the Offshore Board here and you'll get plenty of responses. Make sure FIRST that you and your buddy with the cuddy have all the safety equipment, a buddy boat, and an excellent weather window. Before you head out on your own, go with a charter or another experienced crew and see how it's done. No room for mistakes out in the blue.....good luck and be safe - Andy

Going offshore in a 21 foot boat is risky. Even riskier is your neighbor taking advice from a 13 year old who got his advice on the internet. Not trying to make light of you trying to get offshore to catch tuna but recommend you go out with someone with offshore experience.

This is true but you can't get the experience unless you go do it either. Everyone told me going in a 17 foot boat was crazy but I did many times over as far as the fingers and brought home bluefin.

Generally 35 miles for the BFT up to 65 Miles for the YFT. I have caught Yellowfin in 15 fathoms and Bluefin in a 100 Fm so there are really no rules but Youi might want to choose someone who has a bigger boat. You could save your money for a Make up charter this Spring/summer.The fishing Center where I keep my boat would charge about 300/person for an offshore Trip.
