Replace backer line?

I use 40 lb mono as backer under my power pro...is there any need to replace the backer every year?

I've had power pro on my reels for about 3 years. When I reversed the line over the winter, the backing was discolored but still in ok shape. After reversing the power pro, I expect to get another 3 years out of the line. 5th (Marty)

I will change the backing on my reels once every 2 years because mono has a memory and I personally believe that the memory of it weakens the line.
