    Default Selling a boat??

Hey guys.....I'm looking for some opinions regarding selling my brothers boat for him. He has a 1985 20' Sun Runner Cuddy Cabin that he got used a couple of years ago. Last year the Volvo Penta engine blew on him and it's been sitting ever since. He intended on putting a new motor in, but, he's reconsidering and might want to sell. He did put in a brand new starter, distributor, altinator and coil BEFORE it blew up on him, but does that even matter given the motor no longer runs?!?! What would be a realistic ball park price for this boat? Of course he wants what he put into it, but, I think thats a little unrealistic..... any advice??

I hear ya...... I told my brother the same thing (in other words though :) I told him to just let it sit in his backyard and polish it up for the season.....save his pennies and look on CraigsList for another motor when he has $1500 (or more??) to spend on it.

unless it is a desired brand no one is going to want an old boat without power. Unfortunately it is probably worth less than what a good repower costs.

We're talking about a 25 year old boat. I'd probably pull any of the good components off the engine / outdrive and list them or eBay, TF, THT or craigslist. I'd then donate the boat to a charity, there are a number of charities that will take them. Take the tax deduction.

The benefit is your helping a good cause, you get the eyesore out of the yard and you make room for a replacement.

This is sad but VERY true. Old boats don't make it like old cars do.
Some NICE deals on some used boats now.

Not sure if this would work or not....but you might have him try a junkyard for a motor. Maybe he can find a 4.3 or 5.0 short/long block to quickly marine and swap his new parts to?
