I wondering how it will compare to Humminbird's side imaging. Humminbird had their technology for several years. I was getting ready to buy a Humminbird. Now I might wait to see how Lowrance's side imaging looks.

Default Will just have to be patient

The official name is Lowrance "StructureScan™ Side-Viewing Sounder ".
What I have been told by some "insiders" (which may mean nothing),
is this will "blow Humminbird SI out of the water", and that's a direct quote.

It will use "broadband" technology, and have been told it may also include
    forward looking sonar.

Any HDS model can use this, but may not be available before July.

Side scanning is good to around 150 feet. Used at trolling speeds.
Should be good for the bay.

the dealer that sold me my boat saw the prototype in action and said exactly what Cobb said, it blew HBird out of the water. He said he has owned a bird for years and he is switching!
