Using the guidance from Billy's book on the Mirror wrap, I finished it tonight! Here's a pic....Colors go good together and it's on a rod for togs, so it should look real good holding up the rod with a tog!
Gotta short gaff to put some abalone on...Kevin, what do you think of Mudhole's tutorial?
I looked at it and I don't recommend it. The results are less than desirable. You need to trust me on that one. You will not be happy with it. With that said, please don't get me wrong that my comments are not spilled milk or sour because I didn't do everything I have done for the money. I was in negotiations with them, but it didn't work out. They felt that the 1-2 rod builder would not drop a piece of veneer into vinegar to make it pliable, but they would bash it into a million pieces and slap it on a blank. They are promoting the crack method which produces a less than desirable look. They were all proud in that they thought they devised this method. Then they were informed that their method has been out for decades and is actually called "Veneer Fracturing". I say it sucks because I have seen the results from that. Mudhole will do whatever makes THEM money and thats the bottom line. My method makes a veneer inlay that is beautiful, one piece and a true inlay. Their method makes an add on to a rod that is easy. I wouldn't call it an inlay. Check out my website and at the top I have a veneer gallery and I also have the DVD available for sale. Its not listed but email me and I can help you out. I have some stuff going on now with gaffs and will post the pics when they are ready for primetime!!!
To those that don't know me, I guess I sound like im money grubbing, but those that do know me, know I do it for the love of the craft and thats it. Let me know what I can do to help you with that.
Kevin
I have to agree that the cracked venner looks like crap when it's done. I saw a couple photos posted in response to a veneer I did using Kevin's method, and they looked very poorly done, and I wouldn't want that on a rod with my name on it. The cracks are very noticeable, especially on lighter color veneers.
