Too early for 1st Island Pier. That gets going "steady" around the 1st or second week of May most years. Sandbridge Pier can be good on jerk jiggers for taylors and an odd gator spec, but it's hit or miss too. The money spot is often the outgoing tide (two hours after dead high tide) at the ocean view pier. On bottom rigs use thin slices of Squid on a double bottom rig (based on recent history) and 2 oz bank sinker. Spinner hooks help. Fish about half way down the pier. Generally croakers and roundhead will bite. There are flounder (some 20+ inches) use circle hooks, 20' leader from a loop drop and again 2oz. Fish live minnows with the same strips of squid. They seem to be located from the pierhouse to about 150 feet down the pier. Fish down current (east on the outgoing tide) because if you nail on of the doormats there it will be difficult to land if you hook it up current of the pier.
Good Luck,
Chuck

It's easy to access just this side of the Hampton Roads Bridge Tunnel. Good luck wherever you go
