Wouldn't fish flounder without one. I just tie a slightly smaller hook to the bend in the front hook...2-3" back.
I often wonder... do I lure the fish, or do the fish lure me?

For my stingers I make them look like a mini fishfinder rig. Its basically a snelled hook on one end w/ a swivel on the other and about 2-3" of mono in between. Then I attach a hook and the stinger on a snap swivel attached to the main line. Above the swivel on the main line is a squid skirt to hide the tackle. I top it off with a spinner and bead above the skirt. Makes for a great flounder rig. Of course you bait the hooks bluefish strips or some other fish.

    Default stingers

a treble hook that's, supersharp on a 5 inch leader to a slidable
snelled 6 ough j-hook will increase catch, when the bite is slow.
the slide can be adjusted for longer baits or live bait. it's just a
little more work. the line between hooks must have a little play,
or be a little loose. kayle hooks tend to spin the bait. when you catch
those peskty bites and occasionally they are 4 to 5 lbs, you are
so much more satisfied than wondering if that was a bite or not.
be a little more careful with that hook and netting as well, often the
hook comes out of the lip or softer tissue.

I usually fish with a stinger hook on my flounder rigs. I have used the double kayle hook rig and the kayle hook with a j-hook stinger. My favorite rig is a kayle hook with a skirt followed by a treble hook on the very end, without any decoration. A strip bait on the kayle hook and a minnow or second strip bait on the treble hook. One thing is for sure, with a treble as a stinger hook, you do not miss many short strikes. Problem is that you have to be very careful unhooking the fish as the treble hook can be very dangerous as the fish flops around. I have gotten a couple of them embedded in my hand over the last couple of years---thankfully, I had a friend that could use the mono loop method to remoce the hook for me. This would be a problem if fishing alone.

    Default Bucktail jigs with stingers

The jigs I tie to fish pillings with have stingers. I add a 4/0 Gamakatsu Octopus hook about 2 inches back from the the jig hook.

If you use malin wire the nots don't get in the way and you can put your stinger much closer the hook.

Mine is not tied to the bend of the jig hook. It is attatched to the jigheads itself under the wraps that secure the bucktail hair to the heads. I have used them like this for a couple years and they increase the hookup ratio quit a bit. I am gonna make them in several differnt styles of jig head this year and see which works best. I am gonna make round and butterbean heads as well as the minnow head.
