The Mastery GPX is a good choice.
For shad a sink tip would work well, but a full clear intermediate Mastery line would do good as well.

I recently picked up a Sage RPL+ 6 wt in 9". I was told that this rod fishes better overlined. Anyone have any experience with this rod. I was considerng the SA Master series GPX in 6 wt that I understand is 1/2 heavy. Would also like to get a sink tip for fishing shad.

Thanks for the info. Checked out your web site. Looks like a nice store I'll have to stop in. I am new to Fly fishing and need a lot of help. I have really found the fly fishing community to really be very helpfull.
I have Sage RPLs in 5, 7, & 8 wts. because I feel that RPLs are the "smoothest" casting rods
Sage ever made. The same for T&T Horizon Neptune but just try and find one.
No one else comes close unless you order a custom bamboo for $6K.
These are presentation rods, not tourniment distance casting sticks.
Stay with the lines recommended above in the same weight as your rod.
It took me 4 years of regular practice casting before I could cast a measured
75'.

Rod arrived yesterday and it looks brand new. I am really excited. Cakked Sage and they recommeded either SA GPX or RIO grand. Now I need a reel for it.
