My choice would be the one with a certified service/dealer closest to you. Most all engines now are well made & reliable....JMHO.

I have the 50 ETEC and LOVE it! Runs like a champ--very little maintenance, runs at low speed all day, sips gas, lighter than the 4-stroke and on and on.
I have yet to talk to anyone that has had a problem with one. The only drawback that I have found (such as it is) is that you need to use really good oil in it. All in all it is not really a big deal since it doesn't burn that much gas (and I am pretty sure that not having to go through the 4 stroke maintenance counters the cost pretty quickly).

Just bought an 08 Hydra Sport 2200 with a 250 E-Tec on it. At an idle you have to check the tach to see that it is running and has a world of power if you want to pick up and run. I've had it out twice now and trolled for eight hours each time. It never missed a beat. I deliberately went looking for the boat with an E-Tec on it primarily because it is made in America With American labor. I absolutely love the motor and didn't send any money to Japan.

I also have an ETEC 200hp. At idle and slow troll-it is very quiet. Mine is a 2006 and we use it almost every weekend during the season and have had no issues the past two summers. Winterizing it is one of the best features too, takes about 30 seconds.

I was waiting for someone to mention this added benefit. Wise words, Sir.
