Should be the ultimate baitLet us know how you make out !
Tried the Rockfish carcus along with the Croaker carcus. Didn't work very well. Its been a few years back. I had 6 pots out with rockfish & croaker carcus for bait. I had enough menhaden for two pots so I used the leftovers from a fishing trip. Each of the two menhaden pots caught more crabs than all four others combined. Thought it was a fluke so I tried it again. Came out with the same results the second time.

Any fish will work, some better than others. Best I have ever found was trigger fish...Hard to come by, but it worked very well. Bluefish works well, but doesn't last long. We save all of our filleted carcasses and use them for crab pot bait. If it won't fit into the bait cage, I just throw it right into the pot. In warm weather they have to be rebaited every day..
any bait will work but oily fish will out catch rockfish any day. bluefish, mackerel , trout, all work great. shrimp heads are best hands down.
I have hesitated using rock carcasses as bait since is against the rules "to have in one's possession aboard any boat on the tidal waters of Maryland any striped bass CUT UP or FILLET during the open or closed season for striped bass. Striped bass must be landed whole." (from: Summary of tidal fishing rules
Not sure how much trouble they would really give you, but I figure it isn't worth having to try to explain

Pedro, They work fine in a pots off a pier. Last year when I was living on Taylors Island I always had several pots on a pier baited with rock carcass's and guts. I wasn't looking for bushels of crabs, however, only a dozen ever few days. They kept me in crabs all summer. Just come back after woork, pull them out and had dinner. No fuss, no muss.
SO MANY FISH, SO LITTLE TIME
I got 15 using 2 pots overnight off the dock with croaker heads and guts at Gwynns Island this weekend. They were big and light but full of tasty meat![]()
