Default Off Topic: Pocono Int. Speedway info needed

I have never been to Pocono Int Speedway but was thinking of going to the race Sunday. There are plenty tickets on-line, but it seems they have an odd seating set-up...... It seems the only seats are the ones on pit row. Can this be right? Is it a decent track to see a race at, or should I hold out for a different race? Thanks.

All tehe seats are on pit road because the only grandstands are along the front stretch that's over 1 mile long. As you might well know the track has 3 turns. The second, behind the tunnel turn, is about 1 mile from the grandstand. While tickets are usually easy to see it's not the greatest track to watch a race. I go to 6 races every year and gave Poconos up years ago. However, don't let that discourage you. If you've never been to a Cup race before,or never sat where you could see the pit then by all means go. It's probably the only track within ae easy drive of Baltimre that you can actually see 200 MPH on the front stretch, No restrictor plates either. If you want to talk further call me -410-686-2348. I'll be happy to talk to you about it.

it sucks. The only seating is along the front stretch & you can barely see the back (tunnel) turn. So you end up looking around the guy next to you to grab a glimps of a car coming at you around 180. You do get a good view of pit road action, but thats about it. The track is flat so the view of the corners & back stretches get blocked by the stuff in the infield

I would only go to party in the infield & watch the people (read crazy redneck women) & forget about the race...

It also sucks getting in/out. It can take 3+ hours just to get out of the parking lot. If you do go, park at one of the houses along the road & pay the 15 bucks. Its about a 2 mile walk to the track, but it will save you 2-3 hours coming & 4+ hours going.

I don't know about the pit road seats... they were not there when I went 8 years ago (been there 10 times). I don't know what, if any, racing you would be able to see from those seats.

    Dover is 10x better.

Default Short Tracks are Way Better

IMHO I would save my money to go to Bristol, Richmond, or Martinsville in the Fall. Possibly Loudon. Everyone I have talked to about Pocono said they would never go back.

I second that. I went both days and Sudnay's race was about the most exciting Dover race I've ever seen despite that fact I can't stand JJ.

Richmond and Dover are closer and much better for watching a race. I do not know anyone who goes back to Pocono. I second all of the above repponses.

There was a sign on Outing Ave selling Pococno Tix for $20. I will get the number later if you want it.

No Pocono Go to Richmond, Martinsville, Dover or Bristol and see the whole race. At Pocono you just see the cars come by your seat and then they disappear. Night races are the best......Gary

    Bill,

I concur with what's been said already. I have been to Pocono twice and had pit passes once and grand stand seating the other. Very hard to see even when they are right in front of you. They tend to hug the wall pretty tight going down the front stretch heading into turn one.

Last time I was up at Pocono was probably in the late 80's, maybe early 90's, before we quit running the place....I caught a little of the action on the tube yesterday, doesn't look like they spent a dime on the asphalt since then...Must want to keep the tar strip guy employed...

Anyway, I can't imagine a worse spectator track...

If you can make a weekend of it go to Charlotte or Atlanta. Seats are priced reasonable and thare isn't a bad seat to be had. Atlanta though can be difficult to get in and out.
Pocono is bad but the worst track I have been to is Las Vegas. Richmond has the best racing of them all in my opinion.
