    Default Sat/Sun Report

Plan for Saturday was to get a late start and wreck hop till we found spades - going to CLT if necessary. Got to lanch, had boat in water, went to turn key and NO KEY!!!. Went back to house and considered bagging the ocean trip and just fishing midbay wrecks for spades but ended up doing big round trip. Launched early afternoon and stopped at a couple ocean wrecks. While drifting for flounder hooked up to a trigger and ended up just sitting on that wreck and catching trigger fish. I think flounder were there too but we got distracted and quit trying. Nothing big but perfect for what we were looking for as the water was choppier than expected and the skies were more ominous and we just wanted to relax. Caught plenty of triggers up to 3 lbs and headed to drum grounds late afternoon. Avoided the fleet (like 40 boats) between buoy 8 and 10 and fished south west of them near bridge. No love AGAIN on the drum but had one good run that broke off that I was sure was a big ray and now I am sure was a red. Caught sea bass, triggers, bluefish, sharks up to 4', skates, porgys, and sand mullet on the day. Had pealers, hard crab, clam, live porgys, and cut bluefish for bait but all our good fish were caught on a half box of squid. I'll post a pic after I get them uploaded and someone tells me the regs on keeping them. There don't seem to be any??

Sunday fished a middbay structure for spades - nothing - no marks and no fish.

    No limit on the triggers.....yet!

usually 5 or 6 a person is plenty, UNLESS you know how to clean them!

Im glad to hear that they are around, probally the best eating fish in the bay IMO.

Sounds like a good day of catching to me. Thanks for the report.

Nice! do the triggers pull like the spades? Only caught a very small one once before in Fla. while messing around trying to catch a snapper off a bridge.

They seem similar. The wife said she thought she had a spade on with the first one but it was on squid so that was pretty unlikely.

I filleted them and cut the skin off. Tough little critters but the meat is great. Released some and gave some to an unsuccessful pier fisherman but left them biting.
