net dilema

Ok. I have built my snood line and propstick. Now I plan on going crabbing on Sat. Now I am told I need a snood proof crab net. Who makes them? Who sells them? If not how do I build one?

I believe Capt Dale does, but you should be able to modify the one you already have. All you need to do is put smaller mesh around the top so the snoods don't go thru and get stuck.

I don't think you can buy one at a store, you'll have better luck finding someone here that sells if you can't modify your own.

Dont really have one. I do have the pole but no net attached.

Been crabbing for years, no need to do anything to your net, crabs drop off into the net, no need to scoop

Take any good net and install a 6" X 16"-!8" section of galvanized hardware cloth (aka Rabbit wire) of 1/2" square mesh inside the back portion of the net with the center of the hardware cloth adjacent to the point where the handle is attached to the rim. Fasten the H/C to the rim and net with wire, hog rings, zip ties, or whatever..

The H/C keeps the bait from going thru the large holes in the net mesh and prevents hangups.

Please believe me - I have traveled the corridors of both space and time - what they are telling is true - use regular screen door wire or what ever, just so the smallest bait can not slip thru. Do not go too deep as you want to net to glide thru the water with ease for your netter.

you can get the hardware cloth/mesh at home depot. it will probably be in the outside section of home depot. get some hog rings and make sure you have wire cutters to be able to cut the wire mesh. you only need to do part of your net just like the picture. I would not just rely on "just catching them with the net" without the mesh on it. If you get one snood caught in it while dipping it could get ugly pretty quick especially if you dont have experience with a snood line.
