Haven't been there in a couple of years, but be careful around the inlet - falling tide/onshore wind - usual precautions – but take it easy until you get the lay of the inlet. Back a few years ago the buoys were just a ballpark as to the channel. Masonboro Inlet to the south is one of the few inlets in NC with jetties and can be used as an option.
Fishing Carolina-rigged finger mullet around the ends of the finger canals on the south end on a falling tide can be productive for some nice-sized flounder if the oyster toads don’t get yer bait first. Also pitching under the numerous docks near deep water works as well.
AR 360 (artificial reef) is just a couple of miles almost due east of the inlet. http://www.ncfisheries.net/reefs/ar360a.htm
AR 364 is 6 mile SE of the inlet. http://www.ncfisheries.net/reefs/ar364a.htm

Some folks down in Nawth Cagalaki have been have good success on kings and other critters pulling deep diver 5” Yozuris - blue/silver & orange/white have been mentioned. Run the shorts about 50’ back and the longs 100-150’. Haven’t tried it myself but hopefully will give it a shot next weekend near Morehead.
Link to a wire-rigged one but apparently can be use a trace of wire & Albright it to fluoro.

Just don’t advertise for folks to share the cost of your boat trip. Could get your boat seized. [grin]
