    Default Evinrude Cutoff

I have a set of twins 2004 225hps on the back of my Hydra-Sport. The port side motor cuts off when reaches 3100rpms eveytime. (No alarms) When I run it in the neutral position up to 3100 or faster it does fine. The other motor seems to run fine. Any suggestions welcome. thanks

my brothers yammah does the same thing. mannuels and smart guys said it was the o2 seneor, the 3 low pressure fuel pumps, or the fuel filter in the motor itself, no luck on all those replaced parts. a merc mech told me that his 225 was doing the same thing and it was dignosed as a bad switch, this switch is on the mtr at the shift lever and when running at high speeds you pull back on the throttle the switch kills 3 of the cilinders [for just a secound] for ease of working the shift= throttle like the inboard\outards do, any-how his switch was bad and when he hit 2800 rpm switch shorted killing 3 pistons shutting down mtr. told my bro about it, no reply from him yet, lives in hatters. mite pull mtr cover and look for that switch on shift arm. just a sugg: good luck.

Don't run above 1500 RPM in neutral unless you want a paperweight.

Is the motor going into SLOW mode? A bad temp sensor could cause that.

I hope he sent it to DFI (I assume your motor is a Ficht, rather than an E-Tec)

M\M Hope you got you found the problem with your mtr . my brother got his back and found out that the trouble was E\10 gas. it destroyed the inside [eating away at the rubber] fuel line and when he got on the throttle it would collapse the fuel line and starve the injectors shutting it down. a simple fix, but a pain to find.

Just my professional opinion as a technician,(Diesel tech not Outboard) but it seems like you have a fuel line resriction. When the motor is in gear and under a load you will use alot more fuel than at no load speed(in nuetral reving the motor up). I very rarly have to change a controller out those things are more durable than most people think. Most issuees with a controller is the connections, the female pins at the connector will open up, making for an intermittent connection. Keep us posted.

Well the computer is back and will be installed tomorrow. We will take it and see what she does. $700 fix. If this does not take care of it I will probably will need to find another mechanic. I will let you know.

when i read the first post the the first thing that came to mind was a malfunction with the shift interupt switch or the neutral safety switch causing the motor to just turn off when the throttle hits a certain point

OK, ran the boat Saturday morning. Got her past 3100rpm and kept on going. Motor sounded great and hope this is the end of the problems.
The computer was sent off to DFI. The problem was with one the relays or sensors on the computer that was thinking the engine was over heating. The diagnostic software could not or can not detect this problem.
Anyway the computer was repaired and the software was upgraded.
