Hey men, My Mercruiser 350 CID has not been running right for 4 yrs. We are tearing it apart and depending on what we find I may need a "rebuilt" engine. Does anyone know where I can buy a rebuilt engine around Baltimore from a reputable shop? Thank you, Bob

get the long block from jasper engines at jasperengines.com ive had good luck with them. just my 2 cents

Capt, What do they mean by "marine long block" I always had Chevys and there was only ever a small and big block. A 350 CID has always been a small block but yet the advertisements say "marine big block" I am lost. Thank you, Bob

a long block is the engine block, pistons, crank, heads, etc (all internals) and you use your current intake,carb,distributor,altenator,starter,ect (externals). i replaced mine this way 5yrs ago and 1200hrs later still running strong. Alot less expensive and jasper remans are said to be better than new as they any manufacturing defects. are you sure you didnt misread 350cid for 350 hp at one time the 454 big block made 350 hp

long block is acomplete engine minus the externals mentioned above. A short block is evrything between the head gaskets and the oil pan. You reuse your existing heads and valve train.

Small blocks are the smaller displacement V-8 engines, usually those below 400ci. Big blocks are the 454's, 460's and the old 500ci they used to put in the land yachts called cadillacs.

No experience with Jasper engines, but I have a jasper tranny in my F-250 diesel with 7+ years an over 100k miles with no complaints.

ok, I have a small block 350 CID @ 260 hp. If I can match it up or possibly go with a little more horsepower (350CID @ 325 hp) would be cool. I must watch the rpm rating because with an Alpha 1 outdrive you don't want to rev over 5,000 rpms. Some of the 350's rev to 5,600 and 6,000 rpms to develope 325 or 350 hp. So with this setup why spend the money on an engine that I can't use to it's fullest potential. The Jasper web page leaves a lot to be desired and I can't find an engine or prices on it. Where are their shops located in or around Baltimore? I'll stop and talk to the guys. Thanks again, Bob

Check that website again...I was able to price out my 5.0 reman and find an installer in Richmond online.

Only way you can boost your horsepower is buy a new engine with efi instead of carb unless you can find something in the aftermarket racing web pages. I saw something on TV the other day called easy efi for chevy small block that bolts on a existing manafold for sa car and I dont know why it wouldnt work on a boat.

Doesn't have to have EFI for more Horsepower.

you dont need efi for more hp. think more along the lines of ignition system. yeah efi will be more fuel efficent. the whole thing about using automotive efi systems/ components should be immediatly thrown out the window. easy way to be killed or at the very least fined with a stiff one. automotive products dont provide the spark and explosion protection that we need in a boat being that the product will be used in a confined area with fumes present.
