    Default john boat with 9.9

I'm looking at buying a 2002 16' polarcraft that has a 2002 9.9 yamaha four stroke, and comes with a galvanized trailer. Its basically just a plain john boat with a motor. It also has a trolling motor, but I'm assuming that will need to be replaced. The boat is in good shape all around and the motor looks and runs great, and had the water pump replaced less than a year ago. Any thoughts on the value of this boat? I'm just trying to get a ballpark figure to see if he's asking to much for it.

Not sure of the "blue book" value, but the used boat market is very soft and we are headed into the cold months so prices should be at rock bottom. My wild a$$ guesstimate would be something like $2K plus or minus. Often the sellers have an inflated value in mind since they paid a lot for the rig. There are some extraordinary deals in used boats right now so do not feel like you need to rush into a purchase.

I've owned and sold a lot of jon boats through the years and just sold one recently with a 9.9 honda but the boat was a war eagle all welded and was smaller than 16' and got a lot more than the range mentioned above. Is this polar kraft welded or riveted? If it is one of their welded 16 jons I'd say the boat is easily worth 2500.00-3k if it is all in good shape, including the trailer. It might be worth up to 3500.00 just depending on whether it was kept inside and all is in excellent shape with very little usage.

If it is a riveted boat and it is in fair condition I'd say a low of 2k and up to 2500.00.

Keep in mind that if you go buy this same boat right now the 9.9 is going to cost you 1800-2k, the boat 2500.00 and the trailer 800-1k.

    Good luck.

don't know if you are a speed demon. but a 16ft jon probably 48in wide, is not going to light the water on fire with a 9.9hp. I run a 25hp yamaha on a 16foot polar, and it is NOT overpowered. if you are going to load it down for duck hunting or such, 9.9hp is not going to cut it for you

Well I live in Suffolk, very close to lake meade and lake cahoon, so in order to fish those I have to have a 9.9. Its an extra wide boat and definitely doesn't move very fast, but speed is not recommended in those lakes either.

    Thanks for the replies

I just saw a 14' john boat w/2005 40 yamaha for 2,300.00 on craigs list. This would be a great buy if you were looking for a john boat, bit overpowered but it might be a wide boat? I have a 15' boat w/a 40 and it will run about 40 mph...can't put it in city lakes though. R/Chip

I've been tracking similar boats for a while and would say a 14'Jon with a 9.9 is between 1500 and 2K. If excellent I'd cap this one at 2500.00.

I am looking to replace my 14' Sundance with a jon boat so I can run the river easier (fiberglass boat and shallow susky are a bad combination:)! If you are interested in a Sundance Skiff 14'(carolina skiff type layout) with a 25 HP, drop me a line.

    Good Luck
    John
