Oil for ETEC

I have had my ETEC 200HO for 3 years now and have not had a bit of trouble out of it. The first two years I ran basic TCW oil(pennzoil or whatever was reasonably priced). This year, I used true blue XD 30 and the engine ran good and actually seemed quieter. But at 30 bucks a gallon- it costs a ton and although I did not formally track it-it seemed to use more XD 30 than the cheap stuff. What oil do you ETEC owners use??

I use XD100 in my pair of '07 175's. No need to ever decarb, less oil used (about half) and the last I bought was $32/gal. The best oil to use in an E-Tec, period! I don't know where you buy your oil, but you're getting hosed.

I have a 250 E-TEC and I use the XD 100 and buy it from Sun Coast Marine for about $32 per gallon, the pricing on the XD30 is about $19 per gallon. Phone # is 727 535 4500. shipping is free. I personnally think the synthetic is a far superior oil to petroleum based oil. I've been using it in all of my vehicles for more than 30 years now, and I find the oil stays cleaner between changes and zero engine problems in about one million miles and 6 vehicles.

Thanks guys! did you have to have the motor "calibrated" when you changed from one oil to another? or do you think I can just go from the XD 30 to XD 100?

The change from TCW-3 to XD100 is a software change done by a tech (if you don't have the sw). Takes a couple of minutes. If you decide to change, run the tank down pretty low, fill with XD100 and wait until you've run for a few hours before implementing the change. Some tech's might insist on dumping all of the existing TCW-3 oil, replacing it w/ XD100, running the motor for a while to purge all the TCW-3 before actually making the change. You might check with whomever you will use to make the sw change.

I'm surprised the selling dealer didn't ask you what oil you were going to use. Mine did.
