    Default OPINIONS ON BOAT ALARMS

I'm considering the installation of a motion sensor as a part of a boat security alarm system. One expert told me to avoid the motion sensors on your boat because "heat inversion" usually results is many false alarms.

Should I avoid the motion sensor?

Is one brand of motion sensors better than others?

    Thanks!

    Default OPINIONS ON BOAT ALARMS

I installed a VoiceAlarm system on our boat, and did a lot of research.

Motion sensor is OK if mounted in the cabin and no movement outside the ports will set it off. Not good for open areas, i.e. don't use it to protect the cockpit as passers-by on the dock might set it off. As will birds, etc..

There are, of course, dual zone motion sensors with a "look-down" zone to reduce/eliminate false alarms.
