    Thumbs up Docklight Perch

Well, after a couple of tries, I finally made it to my favorite upper-Severn dock after work this evening. Using a small twister tail jig, I managed five W. Perch, four of which went 12" or better, and the fifth fish (maybe 8") was released to grow a little. My dad joined me and caught a measly 11-incher. He also caught an approximately 14" Rockfish and one that we measured at 17.75". I added a 17.5" Rock to the mix. The huge schools of Perch I had hoped for were not evident, but the quality sure made up for it. All of this happened in the span of 45 minutes.

Unfortunately, I left the "Hog Trough" on the dock, so you'll just have to take my word on the lengths. The first fish in the photo went a hair over 13”, the second one was 12.5”, the third from the front was a solid 13.25”, the fourth was barely 12” and the poor guy on the end had to stretch to meet the 11” hash. This is the first time I have caught two 13-inch W. Perch in a season, let alone a day. Interestingly, the 12.5” inch guy squirted milt when I cleaned him.

P.S.: I heard some big splashes in the darkness, so it sounds like the Rock are still way up the Severn in force. That means we should still have some great fishing at the mouth of the Severn later this month.
