November Fishing local to the Severn

It was really nice out this afternoon, light chop, sunny, and an ebb tide. I hit the rock pile at the BB but could only manage 3 Rock/no keepers. I was drifting and jigging. Very light traffic for such nice conditions. I saw three boats total.....Does anyone expect the fishing at the Bridge to turn back on before winter or are we clearly on the downside?

There will be Rock around the bridge until late January most years.

Some years it is gangbusters - other years so/so.

An old tactic that is often overlooked is to bottom bounce light bucktails along the pilings in an east/west trolling pattern. Going north/south is too snaggy due to the way so pilings are made.

We used to circle the eastern rockpile and then work east in the deeper water. Most Rock were 18-24 but now/then bigger ones turned up.

The bigger White Perch should be schooling at the bridge soon - they are great fun.

Thanks Skip, sounds like fun! Now you got me thinking Perch. Will a Perch hit a stingsilver on the bottom or would you be offering worms/shrimp et.al

Perch are not too picky.

My favorite lure is a gold hammered Sting Silver in 1 1/2 oz size with a single hook that has chartruese feathers. Marty's and Anglers have them.
Mashing the barb will help unhook the many short Rock plus helps get the lure back from snags.

Regular bottom rigs are fine. We use #4 hooks with a 1 inch Mr. Twister on them. White , yellow or clear chartruese work well. When the weather is cold - lures help keep the fingers warm .

Small 1-2 inch minnows are deadly - the Perch are feeding on tiny silver side minnows so anything little will get hit.

I'll jig a 5 inch Bass assasin for Rock and often hook a 9-12 inch Perch. Not snagged but hooked inside the mouth.

One tip - often the Perch school up tight. Sometimes the school will be the size of a pick up truck - no bigger. Proper boat postion is the key.
