    Default toothy critters

Has anyone caught one in the first seventeen days of January?

I was wondering the same thing. Makes my job as Leaderboard Guru easy Are the creeks still iced over? Maybe we should extend the tourney through March?

There was an idea to start the Pickerel derby earlier.
The ice does make it tough to fish right now.

Going into March would also give more a chance to fish.

I have no objection to extending the tourney. If some people had found a way to catch fish for the leaderboard, I might feel differently since it wouldn't be fair to them, but since the leaderboard is empty, I don't see how extending it advantages anyone over anyone else. One simple way to extend it is simply to provide an extra week in March (moving the meeting one week back). The other way is to extend it until the April meeting. I think that some folks feel uneasy about catching spawning Pickerel, however, which is what would happen if we extended it to April.

    Gentlemen--

Late March fish definitely require careful handling. I'm for adding a week in March. That would give us about six weeks. Feb. may yet turn out to be a happy month. IFirst Light[I] is coming back from her annual checkup this week, so she & I are planning to try 'em this coming weekend. Anybody else?

Good to hear, JP. This weekend is looking --COLD --- not sure my blood is quite that thick, but if you want to test some super-secret lures I purchased at BPS, I'm happy to lend you a few. I'm dying to find out how they work and you've certainly lent me your share.

If the ice stays away, I may try to get out
    Need some water time.
tried a fly rod from the dock on saturday - good news is that my shoulder is recovering OK
No fish - but only had a narrow slot between catching trees along the shore, or hitting ice a little way out.
had hoped that sunshine with a good midday high tide would be the ticket to put them on that sunny, structure rich shore.

    Gentlemen,
Hit the docks both Saturday and Sunday with not one toothy critter follow or hook up................Hope it gets better, as the water clarity looks good, as it should this time of year. Almost tempted to get in the inflatable and fish some of those toothy looking creeks up river............Maybe this weekend...............

    Steve,

Same with me. I threw lures at them Sunday morning for about 15 minutes and yesterday afternoon for about 10 minutes and not a single follow, hit or even a snag. I was hoping with yesterday's super high tide, warm temps and stained water that I might have a little luck but I had none at all!
