Your observations are correct and I would highly recomend replacing the ring and assist hook. I had each of those fail several times. Owner solid rings and assist hooks are well worth the money.
I purchased some Jerk that jig 500g jigs today and once I got them home I noticed that the ring you tie to is a washer not a ring. It looks to me like it will cut through the line. Has anyone had problems with this, or am I being too worried about nothing.
Thanks
Bryan

I'll second............your thoughts are correct.
If I'm using, say, a 150-lb mono leader, can I just crimp a loop (with one of those little pastic thimbles) in the leader, so the ring will rub against the thimble? Will this be too visible to the fish?
crimping is nearly guaranteed to give you better results in 150lb mono.
i would recommend testing your crimps to ensure you get full strength out of them before trusting them to a fish though.
i'm not so sure about the plastic thimble but its worth a try. but you will have to change out the hook on those jigs so why not use a quality welded ring that has nice round wire.
the owners are still a stamped washer but have slightly more rounded edges.
Bill (Hit n Run) has done some testing with the connection for jigging and 150 pound leader with Jinkai IL crimp and 1/8 ID hydraulic line as chafe guard seems to be pretty bullet proof connection for jigging.
"Jerk that Junk". Hooks aren't worth a damn either...
I cut the heat shrink off the ones I got and found that the knot is no more than an overhand knot with heat shrink over it...I took pics to show ya'll but I can't get them up on here....operator error I guess .....so I just got my riggin kit out and put 300 lb mono on some and wire on the others......
Wow, thanks for all the responses...... I have a 100 lb wind on, and plan to just tie, not crimp, to my OTI's and if I decide to use the "Jerk That Jig" I think I'll just take the oti off at the split ring and put on the JTJ, leaving all else in place. Any suggestion on best Knot? Imp Clinch? Palomar?
Bryan
tie whatever knot you are most comfortable with. and TEST it.
safety first though (safety glasses and gloves at a minimum.
comparing crimps to knots last weekend made me a firm believer of the crimp.
