This falls under the better late than never heading. I saw a report that there will be a moratorium on shad and herring beginning in 2012. This will mainly affect Virginia where hickories are substantially legal. It should also end the use of herring for striped bass bait at LF, giving the fish cops another violation to write up and possibly increasing survival of SB in the Potomac.
After several skunks LMB were caught Tuesday. Very late for this to kick off. The ospreys were back too.
It happened sooner than that. There's a moritorium on river herring already on the Potomac but guess for who? Only rec. anglers. How much sense does that make. It does not include DC as of yet.
