    Default Tuna permit

Am I correct.... I and everyone on my boat (registered in VA) needs a NC license and the boat needs a nmfs permit to catch tuna, dolphin wahoo etc.... I am new to this but trying to get into it. Hopefully next weekend. Thanks in advance for the help.

If you leave from and return to an NC port, then yes everyone needs an inidivual NC license, even for offshore pelagics covered by your NMFS permit. The exception is you can leave/return from a VA port and if you fish inside NC state waters (like 3 mile line for stripers), then everyone also needs an individual NC license. I wish NC would just get a boat license.

A little word to the wise... EVERY year in NC I get one of those Coast Guard safety checks and their little sticker. I have never been pulled aside for a random check. Is it the sticker? don't know, but like to think so.

You only need the dolphin wahoo permit if you are commercial or charter fishing. Everyone on the boat needs NC licenses unless you are charter fishing, then you just need a nc charter permit. Any time you are fishing offshore you need a tuna permit.
