    Default Annapolis Area?

Are the crabs up around the Annapolis area yet (back creek, ego alley, spa creek, severn river, etc)? I was thinking about launching the boat tonight and throwing out a few traps for a few hours...

    Waste of my time?

I would not rig your line up but a few traps in deeper water on the edge of main river channel, near the mouth may be in order?....? Try differant depths and see what you get. I'm guessing 18'-30'?

Food for thought, I came across and abondoned gill net, all tanlged up, about halfway up a creek about mid river......this was mid april..... it was full of LY, Perch, a few rickfish, 1 sunfish and 4 crabs (all about 5").

Net was trashed, and I released all live fish. Some of the fish had been dead for at least a week, but I was more than surprised to find the crabs, all of which I released.

I guess I'm the first TF'er to catch this year

Doubt you'll get much but you might be able to have dinner.

Well, only threw out 4 traps tonight for about an hour. Was mainly looking for something to do until the Pens game started rather than sit around watching TV or this screen. Put the boat in on Back Creek around 6. baited and set the traps and let them sit for about 15min. Checked, nothing... Again set, checked, nothing. Finally on the 3rd set of 4 I got one small crab. About 5". I will definitely be going out again this week to target some deeper water (tonight I set in about 12-15') closer to the mouth. I only have 5 traps now, would like to get about 5 more.

Anyone else crabbing in this area yet?

Depending on where your at I have a topless you can have plus about 5 or 6 old box style that are in good working order. They may need line and/or a float, but your welcome to them. They are traps that came up with my line and I throw'em in the boat so they don't litter the bottom. let me know if you want'em

Thanks for the report. Maybe try deeper like you said, OR another approach- a creek much shallower, as in 2' to 4'. Smaller baits too. Just a thought.
    good luck

I went out fishing on Friday (5/8/10) in the Severn and brought out 15 topless traps with us. Threw em in one of our main spots around the bridges in depths from 4-12 feet. Only ran the line 5 or 6 times throughout the morning and only had 2 crabs, one just over 6" and one about 4". Was tempted to keep the 6" crab but it woulda just left us hungry for more. Hopefully they start running soon.
