    Default Virginia Bluefins!

Saturday we had a couple from Louisville Kentucky aboard and they wanted to simply catch something bigger than a bass. Easy enough we started out at the tower catching jacks. Mission accomplished in the first ten minutes of fishing. We were gonna use jigs but Justin on the Just Right was nice enough to offer up a couple croakers so we caught our jacks the easy way. After their arms were sore and they were tired of cranking them jacks in, we decided it was time to troll. We only trolled for about three hours and the first two of them we didn't get a bite. Then we found the fish. In the last hour of fishing, we had several bites from bluefins, saw several pods cruising, and had some mahi bites. Our fish we killed was a nice 70# class fish. Water was 76 degrees ugly green water. No bait marks or anything in the area that would suggest it would be a good place to fish but there were definitely fish there. Good to see some bluefins around.
I have a couple of days available for charter in the next couple weeks including this upcoming tuesday and next tuesday. For more info visit my site @ www.matadorcharters.com or call me at 757-749-6008. Thanks and go get em. Capt. Jake

Nice. I looked around the northern tip of the Cigar and the 10f lump yesterday afternoon (for about an hour)...no bait or bites for me. Water was 75 degrees...

Glenn, sorry for the lack of pullage. I just looked at the VB buoy....just hit 80 degrees and it's not from the stream. Heat wave all week this week too. My experience has been once the water hits 80 there is little chance for tuna. I was hoping for a good tuna season off VB for a least a few weeks but looks like they will be north before we blink. Last year this time the water was 69-70.

    Mike,

We managed some gaffers and pulled off a White out deeper. We also raised a Thresher Shark into the spread in 50 fathoms on the 340 line. It did not hit any baits, just followed a big chugger and peeled off.
