Default 57 crabs in an hour and 10 minutes

Crabbed off the pier in Middle River Sunday evening. 5 handlines with sunfish for bait in about 5-6 foot of water. 57 crabs, just 3 of them legal and only one worthy of the livebox. Happy kids, but a slightly disappointed Dad. Little crabs by the bazillion so it will be a good fall.

Sounds like good times. It would've been nice if they were all over 7", but you made some good memories. As a kid, my family would use LM bass and brim fish heads, they worked like a champ.

I took my son with me Sunday to sort. I had runs that exceeded 200 crabs on either of my 1800' lines. After non stop sorting for hours, he told me that it was not fun anymore. I must say that I have to agree with him when the ratio of keepers in less that 20%.

They must be catching alot of legal crabs somewhere. I was in OC last week and a few places advertised bushels for about $80. Females or barely legal slicks, but either way thats cheaper than I have seen in a long time.

WE will be blessed come September on.

So many crabs in the water that, I can say. Just so many!
If you don't go, you won't know and you gotta have bait in the water!
I have terminal Crabiteis and there is no hope.

Will the larger undersize crabs slough anymore this year? I'm not sure when the last slough would normally be. Down the coastal bays I am already seeing "red" crabs...Sort of the coastal bay version of black bottoms or tar babies. They turn redish brown and don't appear to slough anymore for the season, some even grow barnacles...

it's only august, oc crabs start alot earlier than cb crabs. i think there will be 1 o2 major sloughs before the end. if that happens it may not be safe to go in the water.

thats funny you caught them on fish, one time I took the remains from a fileted bluefish and put it in one of my traps when I crabbed Eastern Bay, it never got touched, not one crab in that trap the whole time I was out.
