Default If I'm Not on the Boat

Hypothetically, a friend of mine asks to borrow my boat to go crabbing. No problem there. But I was wondering what would happen if he got pulled over by DNR and had under size crabs. Is it the operator that gets the fine, or would I also be held accountable?

    Just wondering.

Not sure about recs, but comm speaking, pts would be assessed against the license, pretty sure.

I dont loan certain things and the boats meet the criteria.
If you don't go, you won't know and you gotta have bait in the water!
I have terminal Crabiteis and there is no hope.

Rec violations will go to the operator,
Commercial fishing violations can go against the license holder

it is not the boat breaking the law, but the person using it, they would get the fine, same as if they were crabbing off a pier.

When I got checked, she asked for the boats registration, then my driver's license. Not sure how it would have gone if they did not match.

Why do you need a driver's license to operate a boat? You can operate a boat (just not a PWC) if you are too young to drive.

Officer probably asked for the Drivers License (or State issued ID Card) as it is one of the most (in Md) recognized form of Identification. Not necessary to carry, but should you be cited for any violation (criminal, traffic, etc.) you could be arrested if the Officer cannot positively identify you as the person you say you are.

When you are hunting in the state of MD, you must carry your drivers license...........Gary
